What is an apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship means having a job where you get a planned programme of training leading to job-related qualifications.
Your training would be arranged jointly by your employer and a training provider. Some training providers are colleges; others are specialist training companies.
- Your employer provides practical experience and helps you get the skills and knowledge needed in your job.
- Your training provider supports you to get qualifications related to your job whilst you are doing your apprenticeship.
What is a programme-led apprenticeship?
In a programme-led apprenticeship you do the qualifications you need for your apprenticeship first by going to a college or other training provider full-time.
Your training provider will then help you to find a company to complete your practical training with. It’s sometimes easier to find an employer when you have already started to learn about the job.
What is a young apprenticeship?
Young apprenticeships are for students in Years 10 and 11. Young apprentices can spend up to two days a week at work learning a trade. Find out more here
